I enjoyed reading the story [NAGA] pieced together from different characters' viewpoints and the detailed description of the culture and natural surroundings. I really appreciate the background info provided at the end of the book. It intrigued me to look up the manuscripts mentioned. I found some available online and I hope to work on my Malay to be able to read them one day.At first glance I was worried I'd get lost with the names of the characters. But as I read it, it wasn't a problem at all.   Khadijah, Cairo EGYPT

I have finished your book [NAGA] and I found it be absolutely enchanting. Your descriptive words gave life to all of your characters and made me feel as though they could be alive here and now, even today. I commend you and congratulate you on this achievement. Renee Espriu, California, USA

Ringkasnya, saya boleh katakan buku ini sesuai dibaca kanak-kanak urban atau bandar sebagai satu cara menarik perhatian mereka terhadap khazanah bangsa Melayu.

Hikayat is the result of ninotaziz’s wish to preserve and introduce classical Malay epics to today’s generation...the book acts as a wonderful primer and a treasure trove of stories that risk extinction.

This anthology is wonderfully written in a new voice that is poignant and lyrical. ninotaziz's love for the subject is evident in her retellings of these time-honoured Malaysian favourites.

This book of tales brings Nik, a representative of the internet  generation, to several stories known in Southeast Asia, Japan and the Arab countries. He listens to the intricate stories  that weave the threads of imagination with a relevance of universal values. Though they originate from various countries and peoples they speak of sustainable attitudes, struggles and concerns.

Told  in elegant English, these stories are decidedly poetic in their narration. The writer not only feels closely the sounds of the language, but also the real function of stories in our lives, especially in a time when the oral and the folkloristic are taken over by the cyber giants and ogres.

There are many lessons to learn from nature, the good people of many countries and finally the values that have sustained us till the present.”

Nik and the Secrets of the Sunset Ship is another brilliant example of ninotaziz's gift for sharing inspiring, authentically Malaysian tales. It is so important in the modern world to keep Malaysian storytelling alive and ninotaziz does more than anyone to promote Malaysian identity and culture through the power of her work. This story would make anyone proud to be Malaysian.

ninotaziz has that exquisite gift of storytelling that is even more compelling in an age when we are so rushed and so bewildered by the sweep of technology. Old stories come alive in new settings but the truths that they carry are still essential to our lives as narratives of the past make sense of who we are. As the enchantment of stories continue to appeal to the young and not so young, ninotaziz should be congratulated for keeping alive an old tradition and in doing it so well.

Often, the vision of modern corporate, society and thought leaders becomes the epitome of success and the yardstick for achievement for women of today. For a change, the Srikandi, or princesses featured in this book represent the many heroines who were fearless and wise, gentle and resilient at the same time.

The qualities extracted from the tales are, interalia:

Leadership • Knowledge • Truth • Justice • Perseverance • Compassion • Beauty

And these qualities within all the Srikandi is a legacy we must pass on to the future generation.
